Why golf confidence coaching is important to you
A golfer with a poor mindset can be beaten by a golfer with less ability or experience but a stronger mental game.
Many of the most successful players on tour have had some mindset coaching and believe mental skills are 80% of the game.
When you get to a certain level of competition the mental approach becomes even more important as differences in technique even out.
Think about it. The player who is most in control of their emotions, is generally the one that wins the tournament.
Who has benefited from mental golf coaching
Earl Woods believed Tiger's advantage over his competition is more mental than physical. In addition to Earl’s toughness drills, Tiger also benefited from subliminal tapes and hypnosis whilst growing up.
Stewart Cink did a lot of work with a mental coach (not a sports psychologist) before winning the WGC-NEC Invitational (invitations are only issued to the top few dozen golfers in the world)
Retief Goosen said his mental coach helped him a lot in turning failure into success to become US Open champion.
Justin Rose has done a lot of work on his mindset with his coach.
Ernie Els finished 2nd in 3 majors during 2000 and 3rd at Lytham in 2001. Then he worked with a mental coach, which lead to his victory in the British Open in 2002 at Muirfield.
As Ernie himself says:
“I'd hit balls for 6 hours thinking that's how I'd get better. But that didn't do it. I honestly believe that the mental coaching work made the difference when I won the Open.”
